BOOK 3The Prague composer Hans Sitt (1850-1922), whose full name was Jan Hanuš Sitt, was noted during his lifetime for being a violin pedagogue, being recognized by most of the orchestras and conservatories of Europe of his time. He was a violin and viola player, being concertmaster at the early age of 17 in the Brelay Opera Orchestra in Wrocław in 1867, and in Chemnitz from 1873 to 1880. He later positioned himself as a conductor, holding positions in symphonies in France, Austria and Germany. Also a prolific composer, Sitt wrote several works for violin and orchestra, including concertos and several sonatas for various instruments, and one of his greatest contributions was to music pedagogy. Our urtext edition Roisber Narvaez Verlag presents in this volume 100 Violin Etudes Opus 32 Book III: 20 Etudes. Changing of positions, originally titled as: 100 Etuden für die Violine (als Unterrichtsmaterial zu jeder Violinschule zu gebrauchen); op. 32. 20 Etüden: Lagenwechsel. Heft 3. We have used as our main source the first edition printed in 1895 by the publisher Leipzig: Ernst Eulenburg, a beautiful copy preserved in Munich, Bavarian State Library [4 Mus.pr. 61650-3].100 Etuden für die Violine by Hans Sitt is a collection of 100 Etudes for violin, grouped in 5 volumes.Book I: 20 Etudes in 1st positionBook II: 20 Etudes in positions 2-5Book III: 20 Etudes in changes of positionBook IV: 20 Etudes in positions 6 and 7Book V: 20 Etudes in Double StopsHans Sitt's book III "100 Etuden für die Violine", also titled "20 Etüden: Lagenwechsel", is centered on 20 Etudes that focus on position changes, between 1st and 5th position on the violin. These Etudes are designed to help violin students and amateurs practice and master basic position changes. Each Etude gradually presents different challenges and focuses on different aspects of position changes, allowing violinists to develop a deeper understanding and skill in learning this technique. Sitt's vision was not only to dedicate himself to orchestral conducting or violin and viola playing, but also to composition from a pedagogical point of view, on the title page of the first edition he indicates "to be used as a supplement to every violin-school", for between 1884-1921: Sitt held the position of violin professor at the Leipzig Conservatory, even today these Etudes are present in different conservatories around the world, thanks to his progressive way of writing has transcended to our current days. The RN Verlag as usual has always used the Roman numerals I, II, III, IV to identify the strings of the violin, however, due to the nature in which the Etudes was written, the composer has used the Roman numerals to indicate the position to be used on the violin, however, we have decided to leave this indication as indicated by Sitt:I First positionII Second positionIII Third positionIV Fourth PositionV Fifh PositionWe have reorganized the distribution of the measures to provide greater comfort to the performer at the time of reading in music practice, providing plenty of space for annotations you want to make. As for the fingering, we have corrected some impressions that were probably a mistake of the engraver and we suggest the corrections in gray color. Always with an exhaustive revision and the fastidious veracity that characterizes us, Roisber Narvaez Verlag presents in this volume a search faithful to the composer's intention. The editor would like to thank the Bavarian State Library in Munich for providing the material for this research. Read more
