Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Vaneo 1.7 Litre Diesel Engines 1998 to 2004

Brief easy-to-follow instructions are given for the servicing and repair of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Vaneo petrol models from 1998 to 2004. Covered are the standard models “A160 CDI”, (short version) introduced during 1998, the “A170 CDI” and the “A170 L CDI” (long version) from March 2001. Also covered are the “Vaneo” Minivan 1.7 CDI models, introduced for model year 2002. All engines have a 1.7-litre direct injection diesel engine. Depending on the version, the engine fitted to the A160 CDI has a performance of 60 BHP (44 kW) or 75 BHP (55 kW) from 2002. The A170 CDI has been marketed with an engine performance of 90 BHP (66 kW) to the end of 2001 and 75 BHP (55 kW) after 2001. The A170 L CDI model from 2002 has, however, a performance of 95 BHP (70 kW) since its introduction in 2002. Read more
